In it's
greatest single-day fundraising effort since the team's inception
in 2005, Team Mongo raised a total of $22,000 for
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during the 12 Hours of
Mongo Spin Madness event on Thursday, March 15. The event
took place at BD's Mongolian Grill in Royal Oak, MI.
The day was kicked off at 6:00am with 6 members
of Team Mongo mounting their bikes and thinking about how
they will feel 12 hours later. The excitement quickly built
when Fox 2 Detroit arrived to shoot a series of LIVE teasers
and features that aired that morning.
As the day drew on, other team members arrived
and joined the spin. At one point, 10 triathletes were
spinning at once. Spinners, friends, family, and visitors
watched on a big screen as the donation tally climbed. The
question was...will the goal of $20,000 be reached.
At 6:00pm, there was a loud roar
as the 12 straight hours of spinning ended. For the next
4 hours, the fundraising continued through additional door
donations and a silent auction. At the end of the evening,
the donations were talled and announced. Through the support
of all who participated and donated, a total of $22,000 was
raised. Congratulations!
By the way, for those interested in knowing
how many miles were ridden, it varied by cyclist, but it
was digitally recorded that Bonnie Karas rode a total of
175 miles! That's equivalent to riding from Detroit to Columbus,
OH. Next time you go on a 3 hour car ride, think about the
distance covered and effort Team Mongo put on to support
The Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society.
